Storytelling/Story-Acting Research Study

Winner of the 2023 International Psychoanalytic Association's Community & the World Award!

This Fulbright-funded research project is aimed at exploring the impact of two rural village libraries in Uganda on preschool children’s learning readiness skills (emergent literacy, receptive vocabulary, and theory of mind).

Library Impact Studies

This collection of studies based at the Kitengesa Community Library in Uganda is aimed at exploring the impact of the library on the communities they serve and helping to frame explorations of other rural community and village libraries in Africa.

Children's Art Research Study

New article published!
The Arts in Psychotherapy, 77, (2022):

"Drawings from a play-based intervention: Windows to the soul of rural
Ugandan preschool children’s artistic development"

More than 1000 original children's drawings were collected as part of a 2014 longitudinal intervention study (STSA) on learning readiness based at the Kabubbu Community Library and the Mpigi Community Library in Uganda. These  drawings are currently being explored as markers of change in self-representation and learning readiness over time.

Caregiver Impact on Learning Readiness

This study explores the role of caregivers in the development of learning readiness skills, including the role of caregivers' physical health on the level of visual curiosity evidenced by their children--one facet of learning readiness.

Gender and Social Roles Study

This study explores perceptions of social roles,
familial roles, gender, and sex-linked characteristics and
their narrative expression in rural Uganda.
